Interesting VoIP Article on TheStreet.com

As we’ve been touting for some time now, VoIP systems are the future of telephony. A recent article on TheStreet.com comes to the same conclusion. Here are the two high points.
• The author calculates that the widespread adoption of smartphones will fuel the revolution. He notes that fully 66 percent of the average smartphone bill is dedicated to the voice plan, leaving a meager 34 percent for unlimited data usage. With the proliferation of mobile VoIP apps, this essentially means that the voice portion of the bill is wasted.
• The potential of the iPod Touch to offer smartphone capabilities in a “non-“smartphone. The iPod Touch can already access Skype—with a few tweaks it could operate seamlessly as a mobile VoIP phone. And Apple is probably already thinking of those tweaks. The iPod Touch unlimited data plan runs around $25, so the savings would be substantial.
Now, it’s not a matter of “if” for VoIP, but a matter of “when.”
